Downtown New Rochelle Ushers In Summer With Westchester Yoga Art Event

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- The time is now for all yoga lovers of New Rochelle, N.Y., to unite.

Westchester Yoga Art -- in conjunction with New Rochelle Downtown BID and the New Rochelle Department of Parks and Recreation -- will usher in the summer with "Solstice on the Green,” an all-day event on June 20 at Ruby Dee Park at Library Green, 1 Library Green, New Rochelle.

The event will celebrate International Day of Yoga while raising funds to create a yoga program at the Boys and Girls Club of New Rochelle.

The day begins with BID’s Downtown Farmer’s Market from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be followed by a special class open to yogis of all levels taught by Westchester Yoga Arts owner Wendy Vigroux and her instructors from 3:30-5 p.m. Registration for the class begins at 2:30 p.m. at the Library Green entrance on the corner of Lawton Street and Huguenot Street.

Cost for the class is $10 with proceeds from the event going toward the creation of the Boys and Girls Club yoga program.

"This solstice celebration is our way to both come together as a community and to give back to the community," said Vigroux in a statement.

Sponsor village -- featuring the likes of Nissan of New Rochelle, Village Natural Health Food, Roc-N-Ramen and Recologie -- is open from 2:30-6 p.m. Participants are encouraged to upload yoga photos to Instagram under the hash tag #wyasolstice.

Downtown restaurants such as Posto 22, 22 Division St., New Rochelle; The Gnarley Vine, 501 Main St., New Rochelle; and Coromandel, 30 Division St., New Rochelle, are offering special Solstice on the Green discounts to participants with an YWA wristband or donation ticket immediately following the class.
